Disaster is something that we never want to see however it happens sometimes and the Farmland Volunteer Fire Department has trained for many years to try and do the very best we can in making the results of a  disaster as easy as we can and do what ever is  necessary to assist our community in clean up, repair, and rebuild our community as quickly as we can. These are a few pictures of disaster's that has happened over the years in our community.

In February 1967 19 cars left the track around the plum street Products being delivered to the east coast. The last pickup was made just minute's before the derailment, that was 3 car loads

 

the first car off stopped in the area of the creek about one quarter

 

l
of a mile away. Most of the cars were filled with many different of beef quarters just loaded at the Marhofer packing plant in

 

Muncie, Indiana. There was also 2 car loads of canned hams

 

that was all taken to the dump and buried. It was estimated a 1 Million  

 

In 1978 the area was blasted by what the weather people called a blizzard

 

the area was hit with around 24 inches of snow but the winds gusting to 35 mph piled the snow up in places in Farmland and surrounding area to over 12 feet drifts

 

September 1.1953 the Methodist Church in Farmland caught fire and was totally destroyed
the fire started in the afternoon and burned for several hours before it was

 brought under

Neighbors homes were a real problem because of only about ten feet between the first house and the Church. Nothing else was lost. Smoke was seen for miles there was no wind and the smoke went straight in the air making it visible in Muncie.

 

The Church was totally destroyed by the fire and was rebuilt in Farmland at N. Morris St and E. Pursley St.

 

July rainfall takes its toll on the pasture fields in east central Indiana. The White river out of its banks for several days White River flows wild while destroying thousands of acres of farm ground and crops

 

Water surrounds house on the White River flooding and damaging crops for miles.

Indiana State Road 1 is closed North of Farmland in several places All county roads close to the river are closed and will create a problem incase of emergency county roads along the river will be closed for several days. Access will be very dangerous
   
trees 1/2 mile from the river are half way under water and will probably be bear as high as 10 ft from the trunks  water over St. Rd.1 North of Farmland creates many problems for travelers, residents and emergency workers.
